NASTAR East Coast Pacesetting Trials January 5th

The speed demon in all of us finds a home on Hunter's NASTAR race course! NASTAR (National Standard Racing), America's favorite grassroots program, brings skiers and riders of all levels together on a standard course to compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in a battle against the clock!

What is NASTAR?

NASTAR is the acronym for the NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public grassroots ski race program in the world. More than 95,000 Nature Valley NASTAR participants compete throughout the season to win platinum, gold, silver and bronze medals in their age and gender groups. In addition, participants are ranked in their ability group and the top ranked racers qualify to compete in the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships.

NASTAR was developed by SKI Magazine in 1968 to provide recreational racers with an opportunity to compete and to compare their scores to friends and family members regardless of when and where they race. The NASTAR handicap system is a universal scoring system that provides participants with a tangible number that represents their ability. The NASTAR.com web site records each participants stats and ranks each racer at the host resort, in their state of residence and nationally. The NASTAR program has a successful partnership with the U.S. Ski Team as its premier youth racing feeder program.

Participants can register to race NASTAR at the resort or online at NASTAR.com at which time they are given a NASTAR ID number to enable them to check results online and simplify the overall race experience. After each race, participants earn a handicap which represents the difference between a competitor's race time and the pacesetter's time expressed as a percentage. It's easier than it sounds -- if you are a 15 handicap, you are 15% slower than the pacesetter. The handicap system gives recreational racers a simplified system to gauge their progress throughout the season and can be used to compare the abilities of friends and/or family members regardless of where and when they race.
