2017-2018 Kids Seasonal Programs

Is your child ready to take the next step in skiing or snowboarding skill development? The Hunter Mountain Kids' Seasonal Programs give your child a chance to experience the Catskill Mountains, while at the same time continuing development of his or her ski or snowboard skills.

Every weekend starting in December and continuing through March, they will receive coaching from our top snowsport instructors at Hunter Mountain. With lots of snow, great terrain, and renowned conditions, you can be sure your child will get the most out of the winter season. They will also develop friendships that can last a lifetime.

Included in the program are extra holiday days and our annual seasonal race/end of year party. This is an incredible program at a very affordable price. There is limited space available for all the programs, so sign up now! Each group must have a minimum of 6 participants by December 31st or the group will be cancelled or the participants may join another group of the same ability.

Children’s Seasonal Programs meet each Saturday & Sunday starting December 16, 2017 and ending on March 11, 2018, with appropriate terrain availability. Additional Holiday dates are December 26, 27, 28, 29, January 15 and February 19.

 

Children's Programs Include:

 

Mighty Mights   Ages 5 & 6, ski only

Skiers who are able to at least perform the wedge, stopping wedge and make controlled turns on green terrain. Minimum requirement is to ski comfortable on all green terrain (Mossy Brook included). Groups will be formed with other kids similar in skill. All Mighty Mights must be able to independently load the chair lift. It may be necessary for Mighty Mights to ride the lift with an adult from the general public or with another Hunter Mountain Instructor during class.

When: Program meets from 9:30-11:30 and 12:30-2:30 every Saturday & Sunday including holiday dates listed above. There is a one-hour unsupervised lunch time when parents are required to pick up and drop off their child unless parents sign a release form for the student to leave for lunch on their own.

Junior Development  Ages 7-12, ski OR snowboard

Join one of our many development programs for Intermediate to Advanced skiers or riders.  At this stage groups are beginning to become more focused on developing their all mountain skills.  Some of our groups focus specifically on Alpine Development, Mogul/Freestyle Development, or are simply grouped with other children who they enjoy skiing or riding with all season long.  Participants should feel comfortable on blue terrain (Kennedy or Belt Parkway).  Groups formed based on past years of experience in the program as well as ability and group dynamics.

When: Program meets from 9:30-11:30 and 12:30-2:30 every Saturday & Sunday including holiday dates listed above. There is a one-hour unsupervised lunch time when parents are required to pick up and drop off their child unless parents sign a release form allowing the student to leave for lunch on their own.

Junior Adventure   Ages 7-12, ski AND snowboard

Join our seasonal program that gives your child a chance to develop his or her skiing and snowboarding skills. Minimum requirement is to comfortably ski all blue terrain and can be a novice (Hunter One Terrain ability) snowboarder. Child must have both sets of equipment for this program. Training schedule for ski and snowboard will be reviewed by the coach during the season. If child can't perform with his or her group the participant will be moved to another group. Teen Pro Development  Ages 13-17, ski or snowboard

Advanced skiers or snowboarders, must be comfortable on all single black diamond terrain. This program serves as the first step in gaining the skills necessary to become an instructor, coach, or patroller at Hunter Mountain.

When: Program meets from 9:30-11:30 and 12:30-2:30 every Saturday & Sunday including holiday dates listed above. There is a one-hour unsupervised lunch time when parents are required to pick up and drop off their child unless parents signs a release form allowing the student to leave for lunch on their own.

FAQ

Q: What time does the seasonal program start and end?
A: 9:30 – 11:30 for AM session, 12:30-2:30 for PM session, one hour unsupervised lunch from 11:30-12:30

Q: What days does the seasonal program run?
A: Saturday & Sunday from December 16, 2017 ending on March 11, 2018.

Q: What holiday dates does the seasonal program meet?

Q: What happens if coach is not present?
A: Substitute coach will be assigned or combined with different group of similar ability.

Q: What if my child doesn’t meet the requirements?
A: Hunter Mountain offers lessons for children ages 4 – 12 years of age.  Explorers and Mountaineers are available on a daily basis.  We also offer Private Lessons on a daily basis for ages 3+.  Please inquire in the Learning Center for these programs.

Q: What is the Seasonal Program Race?
A: An annual competitive race of all seasonal program participants occurs at Hunter Mountain. Following the race awards and the end of the year party will transpire.

Q: Do I have to register for the Seasonal Program Race?
A: No, all participants enrolled in the program are automatically registered to compete in the annual seasonal race

 

Q: What is the Mini World Cup Race?
A: A competitive race for kids ages 6 – 12, where parents & children learn how racing events occur.  This is not part of the Seasonal Programs curriculum, but you may register through the Mini World Cup link.

Q: Does the seasonal program include a season pass?
A: No, the price of the program only includes instruction and does not include the seasonal pass. Click here to purchase a season pass.

Q: Can kids be released at lunch time and end of the day without parents present?
A: Yes, as long as they sign the parents release form allowing the right for Hunter Mountain to release the kids without a parent present.

Q: What is the recommend equipment for the program?
A: All-mountain ski or snowboard. Groups are setup for skill development that exposes participants to all the areas of skiing or snowboarding. Also required is warm enough clothing to assure child isn’t affected by the cold climate.

Q: Does my child have to attend every class?
A: No, but it is highly recommended to attend as many classes as possible to receive the full benefit of the program. Consistent attendance creates stronger group dynamics thereby enhancing children's learning experiences.
