The Hunter Mountain Spitz Blitz Mountain Run/Walk Up Hunter Mountain Saturday, October 14, 2017

After many inquiries and requests, we are honored to announce we will once again be hosting the Spitz Blitz Run/Walk up Hunter Mountain. Due to the recent devastation from hurricanes and other natural disasters, we are requiring a $15 donation in addition to the $5 race fee. Donations will go to the American Red Cross benefiting the relief efforts. The Spitz Blitz occurs before the gates open for Oktoberfest.

Experience spectacular views unique to the Great Northern Catskill Mountains while racing, running or walking up to the summit of Hunter Mountain! This is a tough, uphill only challenge. Do you have what it takes to reach the summit?

 REGISTRATION Details for October 14th to follow. For a general idea, please check out the information below from past years:

Registration will be from 8:45 - 9:45am

  • Runners begin at 10:00am. Walkers begin at 10:15am.
  • Check in and on the day registration will be under the Hunter Mountain tent set up out front of the Main Lodge.
  • Pre-registration is recommended and will make your morning check in much easier.

PARKING: There are about 5000 parking spots at Hunter. The earlier you arrive the closer you get to park.

THE COURSE: The distance is only 1.7 miles, BUT it is all uphill on Hunter Mountain’s famous Belt parkway. This is an intermediate ski trail with 1600 feet of elevation change - almost 1000 feet per mile. Yes, that means it is straight up all the way to the summit.

SCHEDULE: Please stay and enjoy the festival, and if you still have the energy, sign up for one of the fun activities at Oktoberfest, which starts at 11:15am.

REFRESHMENTS: We will have staffed Aid stations at mile 0.62 and at mile 1.2. Aid stations will have the following water, oranges and cookies available.

FUNDRAISING: A $15 required donation to benefit American Red Cross for the hurricane relief efforts will be added to your $5 pre-registration fee upon checkout. Want to make a bigger difference. That great! Here's a link to our fundraising page.

WAIVERS: all participants will need to sign a waiver at the race registration.  Spectators will need a lift ticket for the Skyride to get to the finish line at the summit.

WHAT TO WEAR: please be sure to wear a good pair of shoes. You will be running/ walking on rough, gravel road with washouts and loose stones.

THE SUN: The sun may be out this day. Please ensure you wear sunscreen and properly protect yourself from the sun.
