HUNTER MOUNTAIN ANNOUNCES OPENING DAY FOR THE 2017-18 SEASON
Improved High Efficiency Snowmaking Facilitates Early Season Opening
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hunter Mountain, New York, November 16, 2017 - Hunter Mountain has announced Opening Day for the 2017-18 season, Tuesday, November 21, 2017. After last weekend’s cold temperatures provided an ample snowmaking window, Hunter Mountain’s Snowmaking and Operations crews were able to fire up the snow guns for a 48 hour period covering the Main Line. As of now, guests can expect to enjoy top-to-bottom skiing and riding on Hellgate, Broadway, Kennedy, and Fifth Ave, which will be serviced by the Kaatskill Flyer, the only high speed six passenger chairlift in New York State.
“We were incredibly excited to begin our snowmaking operations last weekend and expect Mother Nature will provide us with more cold temperatures in advance of opening day,” said Russ Coloton, General Manager of Hunter Mountain. “Assuming temperatures drop on Sunday, we plan to expand our snowmaking efforts beyond the Main Line, giving our guests more terrain to enjoy on the first day of the season” he added.
The success of Hunter’s snowmaking operations is contingent on cold temperatures. Short-term forecasts indicate the Northeast will likely experience a pattern of increasingly colder temperatures during the Thanksgiving holiday week, bringing with it additional snowmaking opportunities. Several long-term forecasts including the Farmer’s Almanac predict the Northeast will experience above average snowfall and below average temperatures this winter.
Going into the second season as part of the Peak Resorts family, Hunter Mountain’s Peak Passholders were able to take advantage of skiing and riding starting last weekend at its sister resorts, Mount Snow in VT, Wildcat in NH, and Big Boulder in PA as a result of earlier snowmaking opportunities. With the opening of Hunter Mountain on Tuesday, passholders will have the option of skiing and riding at four resorts in the Northeast prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Peak Passes are available online and at each resort’s ticket windows. Opening Day lift tickets are also available online and offered at a discount when purchased in advance.
